Just removed another 100+ angels from the parents today, as they are now free-swimming. These will take their place in the fish house in another week or so, and finish the shelf with angels in all 6 tanks! (Is the fish house big enough?)
The third rack is taking shape now, with the third 6' tank almost plumbed in, a 3' tall, divided into three bays, especially for angels and the large sump, already working.
phew! It's getting along swimmingly now!

Ok, here's the latest pics. They are not very good and the room is a mess from working in there while it was raining outside..... This batch show the two sumps in working order:

Well, the truth is, I've taken a couple of days rest and recouperation, so not a lot has been done the last couple of days.
The fish are happy, swimming in their new tanks, and they seem happier than they were in the boxes we had in the living room. The water parameters are quite stable at the moment, with no signs of ammonia creeping up, although I do expect that to change in the next week, mainly because I only seeded the sump, so it will take a little time for that to grow. Saying that, I have a very light load on the system, with only small fry there, and only around 250 of them in around 400 gallons of water.
The temperature is remaining very stable at 80F with just one 500W radiant heater to maintain the room temperature. This switches on for around 2 minutes every hour and is controller by a Weipec thermostat. This maintains the temperature to within half a degree at all times.
Rack 3 has been waiting for me to get my strength back, and should be finished within the week I hope, although the urgency has for the time being, been removed. The next target to meet is to have the tanks ready for the imports whish should be arriving within the next two weeks or so. This will be around 100 breeding age fish, direct from singapore, consisting of various Angels, Gouramis, Dwarf Gouramis, Bettas and Bristlenoses, with a few other interesting ones thrown in to make up the order.
Rack 3 is mainly larger tanks, some of which are for growing out. They have removable sections so that we can increase the size of the tanks as needed. This will mean that I won't have to move the fish as they grow, just pull out the screen section to double their space.
The final capacity of this rack should be close to 1000 gallons, as it will take over the bio-load from rack 1 as well, the rack being re-built and the plastic boxes being re-plumbed into the main sump on this rack. the sump is more than capable of handling the load.
Rack 4 will contain the betta-barracks, some 210 sectioned containers specially for bettas. Our original design for this rack seems to be the best, using plastic CD storage boxes on a staggered rack. These can fit side by side into a 12" rack, with each 5 gallon box divided into 3 sections. There will be enough height for 7 shelves of 5 boxes long, giving 30 containers per shelf. This will run straight down the middle of the garage, being just 12" wide. This will be filtered by it's own sump under the rack, giving us a total of 3 sumps for the whole room.

a rest sounds like a very good thing with the mad pace that you've been working on the fish house.

Fish House?????
 Good Morning Tim & Karen....
Is this a really busy time for you? Lots of new fry to fill your fish house?
I was just worried since we haven't heard anything since the 24th.
Here we are in the deep of winter, it is dark, and we are getting snow.
This week at our house it is 6", but just a few miles away there are 3 feet of new......my son went snowmachining yesterday.
In this area, the holidays are filled with the sound and smell of folks racing over the landscape at 50 -80 mph on their machines...
A great place if you do have cabins to rent!
Well let us know how things are.
Merry Christmas

Hi all! Yeah, I'm still around, and still hard at it, only the construction stopped for a while while I recovered, so the 3rd rack is still waiting to be completed. I have re-built Rack 1 to make use of the large sump with new plumbing routing the water to there.
The fish house now has just over 1000 gallons between the 3 walls, with one whole shelf in rack 3 still waiting for tanks and several spaces to fill up too. The water parameters have settled down perfectly and the UVC is now working, since algae has started to appear. (a sure sign that things are right!) We have been very fortunate and not lost a single youngster during the entire transition! (I have had to recover a few from the sump at times though)
The water changes are simple and as easy as flicking a switch, which starts a second pump to the drain from the sump, as is cleaning the tanks, since I have run a drain all the way around the racking with risers to drop siphon pipes into when cleaning. 120 gallons of fresh water is stored in water boxes in the corners where it is warmed over a couple of days before being used. By changing one rack each week, there is ample water stored. The cleaning takes just a few gallons every other day which is very easily replaced.
I have a new batch of over 100 breeding fish arriving within the next 2 weeks, which will help to fill the house a little.
As for babies, yep, we have been happily producing with a constant supply of guppies and angels, and a small batch of splendens are now reaching good sizes at around 8 weeks old. These have surprised me, as I have not needed to separate them, and they all get along very well together, with no fighting as yet. There are 9 in all, 3 males and 6 females.
Among the new fish from singapore will be blue, white and black angels, veil-tails of the same colours too, blue and red dwarf gouramis, L149s and Tiger plecs, and several bettas of different finnages. Most will be adults, so will be able to breed very soon after arrival.
The aim is to be able to start selling young in the spring. Then we will be able to re-coup some of the cost of the fish house!

I will post pictures as soon as they arrive. I can't wait till wednesday week!
All the tanks we need are sat there empty and waiting, they need fish in them! I am still adding tanks to the FH though, since once they arrive, I have to be able to separate the pairs as they form. With 36 angels alone, (6 of each colour and tail), I should have 6 pairs at least, and more if I'm very lucky. That is apart from all the different colours of gourami which will have to be kept separate, bettas that will need to be on their own or at least, away from each other and other types of fish that made up the order will all need housing.
There are more than I will need, mainly to make sure that I get pairs, and those that are surplus we will sell on once all the breeding stock has been sorted out and they have rested for a few weeks, so if anyone is looking for fish in the spring, we will have some adults available!

I need a female angel, but I'm afraid the trip would be rather long for her to get here.

 ME FIRST !!!!!
I would wait for fry, but I want blue angels! Seems like if you have negotiated international shipments, you should be able to sell them that way also. Are there still direct flights to Anchorage? We could do an airport to airport exchange........
Are your white, the ones described as platinum? Or is there a difference?

This is something I am working on seriously now. There has to be a way to export live fish to the USA and Canada from here, I just need to find someone prepared to do it at a rate that is affordable.
(If you can import from Singapore and the rest of the world, it must be possible to do so from here!)
