I bought a couple of pieces of grapewood that I want to fuse into one long piece. Each has a flush-cut end, and I want to put them together. What's the best way to do this? I'd love to just drill a couple of holes and peg them together, but I'm sure the peg will eventually just rot away.

Welcome We use regular stainless steel screws to attach rocks to driftwood because they don't rust.

It sounds like grapewood isn't good for aquariums, it rots to quickly. The tag on the wood says otherwise, but that doesn't really matter if the wood's gonna rot, does it

How long have you had it in there?
Everything I've found online has suggested that it degrades really quickly.
I have no idea, though.
Anyway, I've got some definite aquarium quality driftwood coming. Maybe I'll try the grapewood in another tank.

It was in three tanks for several months before we moved and is now back in the tank. The only thing with grape wood if you buy it in the store is to make sure it hasn't been sprayed with insecticides. Sometimes it is sprayed for insects that bother reptiles.

Wood from a grapevine. The pieces sold in pet stores are usually from the bases of really old vines, and is pretty big around.

Grape wood is dried grapevine and is usually sold in the reptile section at the pet store. they have really beautiful knots and twists in them. some of them have been sprayed with insecticides and some haven't but they are required to say so on the label.
