Re: Discus Sexing help!

Hi VidW, you've got some cooool discus, they r cute!!! actually u can only differ between a male and a female discus during spawning time, males have pointed breeding tube and females have round breeding tube. i think they get aggressive during feeding time like angels. i have 8 angels.

Re: Discus Sexing help!

I wouldn't go so far as to say Discus are extremely hard to keep. The only real difference between keeping Discus and most other tropical fish is keeping the water clean and warm. I have a perfectly healthy Discus tank and the only thing I do differently from my other tanks is change the water more frequently and keep the tank at 86 degrees. I think Discus fish have got a bad reputation for being difficult to keep. I find that Neon Tetras are much harder to keep than discus. Keep up on your water changes, make sure the pH doesn't fluctuate, and keep the water temp. above 80 or 82 degrees and Discus fish should be fine.

And Neville is correct about sexing Discus. Very tough if not impossible to tell a male from a female until they pair up and start spawning....

I agee with everything that's allready been posted to you,I have posted some pics of my pair in my thread for you I hope these help.BTW your fish sound like they are just trying to sort out their pecking order, blue one might want to be boss which is nothing unusual anyway hope you figure out the gender of your fish.

Re: Discus Sexing help!

Hi,they could be getting ready to lay but that is just a guess. I've read that its allways good to leave them in community tank even if they pair up until they lay eggs so you can confirm they are male/female.I have just tried this myself and it helped me once you are sure then you can move them..let us know what happens.
