discus tank

I'm planning on setting up a discus tank in the near future and wanted to ask all you discus owners a few questions. Like:

1) If I'm going to get 3 discus is a 30 gallon tank going to be big enough?
2) I can only find 3 discus at my LFS, will they be ok in such a small group?
3) What is the best heater to use?
4) If I use some zebra danios to cycle my tank before I get the discus, should I move them to a different tank or will the discus be ok with them?
5) Do discus need heavily planted tanks or can I just put a couple in there?
6) I don't plan on having lights with my aquarium but I will definitely put them in a place where they can get some indirect light during the day. Is that alright or do I have to buy a low setting light?

Since discus are so high maintenence compared to other fish, I want to make sure I have everything right. The 3 discus I saw at my lfs are gorgeous, I really hope I can accomadate them at my house.

Re: discus tank

Um...I don't know a lot about discus but don't keep them with zebra danios because their pH levels are different.

Re: discus tank

How big are the 3 discus you want to purchase?Just asking because discus can grow quite large.
They do like planted tanks and driftwood.
You tank will need lighting if you are planting it.
What kind of filtration would you be useing?

Re: discus tank

The discus I plan on getting are around 2 inches. If I do end up getting them, I'll be using the marineland emperor filter. What kind of lighting do you suggest? I know I need light so the plants can grow, but I dont want to get a bright one since discus are sensitive to light.

Re: discus tank

Sorry I havn't posted back to you sooner, do you have your tank set up yet? 30g should be okay to start of with but you might want to put them in a larger tank later on.I would'nt put to much in the way of plants ect...just a couple to make them feel safe, amazon swords are good for discus.Do regular water changes and your fish should be okay.
