All I can say is dont add to much gravel. I have 6 discus and they need at least 20 to 50 % water changes every other day sometimes daily. There very sensitive to water conditions.
The reason for not having to much gravel in the tank is, it is easier to clean as there main food is beef heart. And trust me on this, after feeding them beef heart it becomes quite messy and they require pristine water conditions. I usually feed them an assortment of food, such as flakes, frozen blood worm, frozen
brine shrimp and frozen beef hearts and algae wafers during the week.
As for over populated, I would say no but of course it depends on how big your discus are now. I know of discus lovers that have 6 in a 30 gallon tank and so far have'nt expierieced any problems.
Now mine are in a 120 gallon tank and are still young and they also have 10 angelfish as room mates along with a pleco and 4 clownfish. Another reason for me to some how get a 150 gallon or larger tank soon just for the Discus.
I dont know much about the Corys but the calmest fish I have had are Discus and they get along with everything.
