| Yeah, all of those should be, though I'm not sure if they'll eat discus' eggs, if breeding is something you're trying to do. |

| I know that cardinals and rummy nose tetras are perfect tankmates for discus requirements, also the neon tetra does well. Not sure about ottos and panda cory cats. |

| Cardinals and Rummynose tetras should be fine I know that Sterbai cories can handle the temps that discus require. They are beautiful cories too Here's a link: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog...species_id=316
It says 82 degrees, but I kept mine at 84 and it didn't seem to bother them. |

| Yes to all of the above tetras. Although be aware, discus have been known to snack on them. Not to common though. I'd also recommend Sterbai cories if you can find them.
NO to the Ottos. Definitely not. Bad experiences with otos trying to attach to the side of the discus and eating their slime coat. |

| Neupane.
Yes you can have those tetras in with your Discus fishes Just make sure that Cardinal tetras and Neon tetras prefer soft water instead of hard water from the tap. I find lots of Discus and tetras that you stated that you wanted to have in your tank. Although I have mine in a pond, and the Amazon river is like a 5 min walk away. So my home isn't too close to the river because in the winter it floods like crazy..
So the water in the Amazon river is a little bit acidic I suppose but the water is soft.
Also, if you have the Discus fish in your tank you should do water changes regularly since Discus fishes are very delicate |

Matt, I know you know your fish, but are you sure they were otos?
I only heard that about CAE's, never about otos. |

And Neupane: It really kind of depend on the individual fish. I got 9 discus along with neons and julii cories, only 2 of them seems to chase neons around (and possibly killed a few, I got 40 neons and now it seems less.), cardinal and rummy nose are bigger so they would have a better chance if you have a rogue discus. Once they taste it, it seems to just control them and thats all they want. Its very easy for sucker type fish to latch onto a sleeping discus at night. Its hit or miss with some people, but like i said. It seems like once they taste it they need it. http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...highlight=otto http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...highlight=otto Last edited by Slug; August 14th, 2009 at 09:51 AM.

Is it possible you you could upload pictures of the river and the surrounding environment? This could also give us ideas of how to "properly" set up our tanks.
Us city folk can be so naive about the world around us and have no idea what it's like past our back yards. |

| dam, I'd like to see some pix of the amazon as well, and from what I've read its better to use cardinals over neon tetras, they like the temp better, neons usually die off after a few months, I had 12 in with my Discus, 4 months later I have 4 left. |

I have a small stream that isn't super shallow or super deep in my back yard. I can see all of the fishes and plants there :P Also, that is where I get my water from to put into the tank. I just do water changes and use that kind of water. That is what I use all the time ever since I started a new tank here. Also, you can see a bunch of pictures and videos on google and youtube |

Brand new fish for the tank !! | Lol, I'm not allowed to take any fishes from the wild anymore. Well a lot more freshwater fishes in the Amazon are being threatened. Especially the freshwater giant fishes. Pirarucus and other Giant fishes are being threatened by humans. Even the Zebra Plecos now. I just watch them in the stream behind my house I don't go out often because usually I have to bring something that I use to fend off Tarantulas and other spiders. They creep me out a lot, and I don't like them Usually my friend just steps on them or uses a stick and wacks them.. I don't know, but I've never bothered trying to kill any animals before.. I've seen enough deaths that happen right in front of me |
