| Im finally getting Discus After 2 weeks of research, another week of choosing tank mates and 3 weeks of cycling and another 4 weeks to make sure that the ICH disease is gone I am finally ready for my discus... I am so excited!!!!
My tank will include 4-5 discus, 14 glowlight tetras, 2 Blue rams, 3 clown loaches, 1 tire track eel, very small. When he gets bigger I will move him and my clown loaches to my 100 gal tank.
Will be getting my discus on Thursday or Friday. Last edited by ATKINSON; July 28th, 2009 at 10:42 AM.

| LOL. Definatly, I will get juvies and put them in a grow out tank for a while so that their growth isnt stunted. |

| Off topic but still... Do you think this stocking list is fine for my 75gal is fine:
3 clown loaches, 4 discus, 14 glowlights, 1 tire track eel and 2 German rams?
Off off topic: My new tire track eel eats for my hand on the third day I tried to give him blood worms. Im soooo impressed! I got the impression that it takes weeks if not months to get them to do that... |

| I wouldnt do clowns with discus if it were me just because of how active they are.
It seems Slug is the discus dude, maybe ask him his opinion on it.

Brian | I wouldn't either, although I know some people do. IMO a 75 gallon is too small for clown loaches anyway. |

| I wasnt even going to get into the fact they could reach 16" since that would take years.
But you really need a HUGE tank to properly house clowns.

| i thought they needed pristine water with pwc every three days and if alot of other fish were in there there would be more poop= not as pristine water most keep them species only from what ive seen i dont have them though |

Although a big tank with discus and a big school of neon tetras does look cool.

| OP stated he would be using a growout tank for a while. Many breeders do daily water changes with juveniles. I'll be doing that when I get mine. |

| Cardinal and rummynose tetras do quite well with discus IME. Some species of cories, like c. sterbai, prefer warmer water and should do fine. I kept my old discus tank at 85-86F. |

| I meant cardinals not neons, thanks harpua
Bare bottom tanks are also easier to keep clean in my opinion.

| Yes, I tried to grow my other discus out in a planted tank. I'll never do it again. Even with 3x weekly 50% water changes, they stunted. I'll be growing mine out in a barebottom 55, then I'll change it over to a planted tank when they get to be 5" or so. |

| Good choice of BB and daily WCs, I think you will be happier in the long run with your fish. Be sure to feed them lots to grow them fast! |
