5 times a day!

I am reading where discus would like to eat four or five times a day (so would I)
I am starting this aquarium for my office so weekend feeding becomes a problem. Any ideas?

duhh - I wasn't thinking before typing.
I never really looked at those - I just assumed they were some gimmick for goldfish.
Now I'm going to go get one

when you set it up you'll want to carefully monitor the feeder for several weeks at least to make sure that it's dropping in the proper amount each time so your fish don't get overfed

Try to keep your auto feeder away from bubbles popping at the surface. I found in years past that if the feeder gets wet they tend to clog. Placement is everything

Discus expert Jack Wattley recommends feeding juvenile Discus several times a day but adult Discus only once a day and even skipping a day occasionally. http://www.animalcomp.com/archives/f...cusExpert.html

That is a pretty big desk aquarium
Not sure i've heard feeding discuss as frequently as possible then i heard about once a day, I would just go with 3 to be in the middle cant be right or wrong then.

I would agree with this. Multiple feedings usually refers to discus below 3". You should be fine feeding on a normal schedule with adult discus.

Good to see you Matt How about skipping a feeding once in awhile? I do that with my other tanks (usually water change day). If we're going to be gone a day or two i just feed well before I leave then don't feed while we're gone. Would this work for discus?

Hey, thanks you too. Yes that should be fine. Though remember the more the eat before, the more they poop while you are gone. Breeders usually don't even feed the fish a day before transport anywhere, so the bags don't get nasty. They can go a few days without food no problem. Thats often a good tactic to use when switching their food up, and getting them to accept other food. Starve them a few days and they are so hungry they will eat anything and learn to like it.

So docB could skip weekend feedings without a problem.

Should be fine yes. Might even want to invest $20 or so into one of those small automatic feeders. Assuming your fish will take pellets and flakes, just set it to come one once or twice during the weekend.

Remember to balance your feedings with water changes, don't skip them! I'm not sure about your schedule but i remember my dad visiting the office for about an hour or so each weekend to check his tank and do water changes so he wouldn't have to mess with it during the week. If thats the case you can just drop some food in while you are there.
