Do discus need salty water?

Do discus need salty water? I was thinking of buying one. In my tank i have 2 young angels and 14 young neon tetras.

No. Discuses need soft acidic water. They need very high water quality, and good quality food as well. here is a good site for learning about discus http://rockymountaindiscus.com/Discus_Fish_Care.htm

Welcome to Fishlore. I keep discus and a few other people on the forum do as well. I'd be happy to try and answer any questions that you have. Just so that you know, Discus like to be in groups instead of by themselves and they grow to be pretty big (8 inches) so you will need a pretty good size tank to keep them in

welcome to fishlore!! before you get any, please try to read about the nitrogen cycle and also tank requirements as discus are very very sensitive fish...so are angels for that matter..heres a link for you...http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm

You could probably put about 3 discus and an angel along with some small cardinal or rummy nose tetras in the tank. Just keep an eye on things. I keep discus and angels together and they do fine, but some people have not been as lucky. I think you will have a better chance of them getting along if you get juvies.
