Hi cathryn welcome to Fish Lore

I've moved your question to the salt water, species specific area of the forum where it will be seen by our SW members.

We have members with a wide range of knowledge and experience, so I'm sure someone will be able to answer your quesion.

We'd love to see your tank, so post some when you get a chance.

Good luck.

i have never seen that in damsels as there territory is normally within the rocks in small caves ,, flashing in sand can some times be a infection or white spot thats why i asked what damsel as some are more prone then others to different infections

Thanks for your replies folks. My damsel is a blue damsel, sorry didnt specify. Had a hunt round google and apparently it is excavating a burrow - fab. Lovely little fish have called it simon even though its a girl (black spot on dorsal fin). thank you for bringing my attention to any potential infection, i shall keep my eyes open. The fish has got plenty of places to hide as I have lots of living rock.

my blue damsel has stopped kicking up sand and doesnt look like its got any infection.

I have 2 small fish a cleaner shrimp and a couple of hermits. how much food should l give them. at the mo i give one scrapping from a inch cubes frozen mix. they seem to be happy but i dont want to underfed them. my tank is 60 litres.
would appreciate any advice as i am new to all this.... and love it!!!

Dried seaweed can be fed to herbivorous species using a veggie clip. See the pic in this link to see what I'm talking about:
