Thanks for the information, Carol. It is nice to meet someone who has had them, and can confirm that they're good-looking fish.
I have already tried local fish stores. I guess I will have to wait. I am just amazed that even independent mail-order sellers I see on places like aquabid seem not to carry them. There is a listing at thatpetplace.com, but they are always out of stock.
Regarding your comment about demand: if I ran a fish store I would try to carry the most interesting fish I could find. The fish stores here all carry almost exactly the same stuff. For freshwater tropical, about as exotic as they get is to carry some neon tetras (those are actually rare around here).
I would think stocking a beautiful, interesting fish would be a no-brainer. For instance, f someone walked into my store asking after zebra danios, I could say, "Sorry, I don't have any of those, but I do have these pretty longfin blues. Have you seen our pearl danios, or the unusual 'purple passion' danio?" (Nothing against zebras.) Similarly, I never see any blue angels, longfin corys, or much of anything else of interest at my local stores. They need
variety.
