The WCMM have arrived!!!!

I probably mentioned this somewhere at some point but yesterday was the last day of QT for my white clouds. Of the 8 I started with I only lost one during they're time in the 2.5 gallon tank. The remaining 7 have been moved into their new 20 gal home last night. So far so good. I hadn't gotten a chance to plant the tank prior to moving them in but I think that they'll be happier in there then sitting in the QT waiting for me to get planting. However I have a question for everyone. Do you're WC's ever go down into the tank? So far my little guys just seem to want to swim in the top like 2" of water. Is this normal or what?

Pics to follow.
Thanks,

WCMM are related to the surface dwelling danios, but my danios have always been interested in more the mid-lower levels of the tank. It's where all the action is. Are there any other fish in the tank?

There's 3 bronze cory's in there as well. However the Cory's like to hang out under the driftwood and don't tend to explore too much. (planning to get 3 more soon to see if that helps) I just got home from school and they're in the middle of the tank now. Maybe they just needed to settle in.

Thats what I was thinking. If there's nothing frightening them (IMO, Corydoras cats aren't that scary), then its just a matter of getting used to the new environment.

hehe
I've never had a schooling fish before so they're really neat to watch (real easy to catch to they're not happy unless they're really close togeather) What should they're normal swimming behaviour be like?

based on my experience with other danios, they should be actively swimming throughout the tank playfully nipping at one another. They should be more inclined to the surface area, but they should also be spending some time in the lower tank area to do some exploring or grubbing for foodstuffs.

Well they stay in a group and nip but they seem to swim a few inches then stop and have a really jerking way of moving. Like they bolt for 6" then stop then bolt another few inches then stop... It's really odd to watch

EDIT: I just added my Stingray 5 filter to the tank and they seem much happier now with more current to swim in.

i think that was a good move. originating from mountain streams, they need the extra water movement to provide them a better source of exercise. now i think its just a matter of waiting for them to settle. Have you tried offering food yet today?

Oh yeh they eat likes they've been starved for a week... I can see why MM's little guys are so fat.

Hello Red. Glad to hear your White Clouds are doing well. I don't have personal experience with them but like any other fish I agree that they probably just need more time to settle in
Best wishes
Ken

Ok so most of these were taken prior to them going in the tank... mostly because they're really hard to take pics of otherwise.

* The 2nd last one is them in QT with gimpy front and center... guess which one he is *
