yesterday i bought a VISIO aquarium ($30) and an eclipse 2 hood ($119) at my
LFS and ordered 20lbs of eco-complete (thursday) to start my first planted tank. I was wondering if
DIY CO2 would be a good idea. as for lighting it is 2-15 watt t-8 bulbs. tomorrow i will be picking up a 100 watt stealth heater
($30) and start saving for a black backround($5). i want to stock this tank with 3- oto's($ ?) a male and female bolivian ram($ ?) and 12- neon tetras
($2.99 each). In the way of plants i was thinking of useing java ferns, crypts(walkerie and wendetti), java moss, anarchis and maybe dwarf sag although i have heard they like moderate lighting.any oppinions on that?
for the CO2 i was wondering if my DIY CO2 would be good enough. it is a 2 liter bottle with a hole drilled in the lid and the tubing goes about 1.5 in into the bottle. i made the hole a little smaller than the tube so that it was water proof/air proof and siliconed the tob and bottom of the lid for extra cation. i will use 2 cups of sugar and a half teaspoon of yeast as my mixture, shaking the bottle every 3rd day. i have heard of putting baking soda in the mixture but dont know how much to add.
any help or comments are greatly appreciated. thanks
