bloody eyes

OK-- Mr Magoo doesn't really have eyes-- at least not like the other corys-- his are all white, but today when I came home from work, his eye spots look bloody. Help!

PS he has not been very active lately and his color is almost pure white, not pinkish like the other albino corys.

Help!!

Re: bloody eyes

Do you think he has septicemia? http://www.klsnet.com/files/fishchart.htm - on this page, it sounds like what's going on with Mr. Magoo.

Re: bloody eyes

I don't know-- it could be. BUT I am still cycling, and I have lost 2 tetras this week, so I am going to do another massive water change. This sucks! I feel like I have given these fish a death sentence. And now that they are all dieing I don't know what to do. The ones remaining aren't enough to keep the cycle going, and I can't just add ammonia with them in there, and I don't just wanna let them die. Also I don't want to add any other fish to keep the cycle up because I will probably kill them too. AHHH so frustrating-- I don't remember having these problems when setting up other aquariums. I am not sure-- I need to take a closer look, but I think Mr. Magoo has said his final farewell.

Re: bloody eyes

Don't add ammonia, just add more fish food. The cory's will miss enough of it that it will have time to release some ammonia before they eventually find it with all their picking about.

I was only planning on adding ammonia if all of the fish die-- but not otherwise. Thanks-- I have been adding the fish food, glad to hear that it will help.

Re: bloody eyes

Some people cycle tanks by only using fish food and don't add a single drop of pure ammonia. So it is a perfectly valid way to not only cycle the tank, but help it remain cycled when you have a low fish load.
