| | Fish Helper | MORE eggs! Need advice quickly! It's mayhem in the cory tank again, the new guppy boys have no idea what's going on, but the cory family is very excited to be spawning again only a week and a half after the last spawn, which was only a week after the one before that!
So I'm stealing the eggs and putting them into a solid plastic floating breeder. This protected the eggs last time but the holes in the bottom allowed the fry to escape. Any ideas on how to keep them in there? I don't have another tank set up to move them to, unless I move them and the guppies into the betta tank and move my poor betta baby in with the corys for a while. I know they get along ok, even if it isn't ideal. Any thoughts? Guess in the meantime setting up a fry tank would be a good idea...wish money wasn't such an issue.
So the urgency of this post is really more about fry food. What people think is the best, and what I can buy online quickly, as we have no stores around here that stock anything much at all.
Thanks guys. Please help! |

Hikari first bites can be bought at the store and make good first foods. veggie wafers will be good for them to munch on.
Then there is golden pearls(rotifers) and decapsulated brine shrimp from www.Kensfish.com
hope that helps

| | Fish Helper | Hi Carol . Thanks for the quick reply.Thought I might go and get one of those nets. Had the eggs munched through mesh once, but a combo of the 2 should work, one for eggs, the other for fry. How long can the fry stay in the net though?
The food info is great, will have to look online for all of it though, because I live in the sticks and REALLY have no variety of foods available. Might go to my LFS guy and see if he can get stuff in for me even if he doesn't stock it. Will have to sus out product names and see if they vary between Australia and The States. It's so much easier to keep the water clean and feed them that way.
Sorry forgot were you were If you can get Hikari products you should be able to get the first bites. You can also get frozen infusoria which will work too. Just keep the water changes up. As much/often as you have to feed them the water can foul really quickly. Keep us posted and congrats!

Carol | Yeah, I thought that. Would one of those plastic critter-keepers with an airstone do the job if I was changing the water every day? Guess that won't work for long though. I might be better to let the fry take their chances in the tank until I'm better set up. Still get the fry food, and hope they manage to get some |

| | Fish Keeper | Hikari products are quite good. I bought the first bites before and even my Guppy fry loved it. |

| | Fish Helper | I can get some Hikari products, but can't seem to find first bites in Australia. I'm also looking for Attisons betta pro to try to tempt my betta into eating pellets, and can't find them over here either. Can't seem to get an american site to ship them to australia. Frustrating. Any Australian fishloreans out there who can help with online suppliers or alternative products? |

I wouldn't mind helping an FL member out by helping you pay for the stuff, it's just the shipping cost I really have trouble paying for. Shipping might always be expensive. |

That's very generous of you. Hopefully I'll find an easier way than that, but you never know, i might just take you up on it. Thank you |

I'd always try my best to help a fellow Fishlorian. Just pm me or something if you decide to take up on my offer, here to help |

They will need lots of fresh veggies to grow on and of course that will produce lots of waste so bare bottom is best for a bit.

Ccarol | When my stolen eggs have hatched I put them in one of those one gallon tanks that I think is supposed to be for a beta. Bare bottom tank, small heater, and I put two air stones in there. It is very easy to keep clean with either a turkey baster to just get out excess food and itty bitty poo. I also use 1/2 water from their tank and 1/2 fresh declor water. Whenever I walk by I just take a peek and get any gunk outta there and of course feed them again so they can put some more itty bitty poo in there for me to get out. |

I like this idea, and think I could manage it, I already have alot of those things. Would have to get another heater, but that's ok I guess, shouldn't cost too much. Sherry, how long do you keep them in there? And then what do you do with them?
I just counted, I have over a hundred fertilised eggs. And also however many fry survived 3 weeks ago still in the tank! I either need to get organised or just let them go - this is a regular thing now. |

| | Fish Helper | Well would you believe that I can't even get a critter-keeper or any other small tank in this area (have to drive an hour to get to any larger stores). I can't even buy fry food around here! It looks like this batch of fry will have to take their chances like the last lot (who knows, there may be some still alive in there), until I can set myself up properly. Then I have the problem of what to do with them....can't see it being easy to get rid of those numbers of corys around here. We have 2 lfs's and a cory breeder in the area, so even once I'm set up, it might not be the great idea I was thinking it is.... |
