Cories afraid of airstone?

Firstly, I'm proud to inform you guys I'm now the happy owner of two albino (bronze) corycats! They're only an inch long now, so if anyone could make a guess at their age that'd be awesome~

Thier personalities are so different, it's easy to tell them apart. Elric's constantly zipping around, doing his looking for food thing, whereas Haine's way more laid-back and content to watch the world go by from a safe hidehole, occasionally chasing El if he gets too hyper. I'll put some pics up when El slows down enough for the camera~~

But they both agree on one thing - they hate the airstone. As soon as I put it on, they vanish and hide and refuse to come out. The filter's on and working fine, so I was wondering if I really need the bubbler if they just freak out at it every time?

usually if there's enough water disturbance from the filter you don't need the airstone.

An airstone/bubbler isn't really needed unless you have low oxygen levels in the tank (for example having raised the temperature very high to deal with ICH), so I'd just keep the bubbler off for now, or else always keep it on and wait until they get used to it.

Ninja-ed.

Also, just while I think of it - are these guys known to vocalize at all? Because I woken up by loud clicking this morning of a kind I'd never heard before. Could this be the fish or do I have to start looking for deathwatch beetles or bad plumbing?

how strange! But they do seem to have personalities and preferences, just like bettas.

When I first put my air stone in, it was really only one of them (out of 4) that went gaga over it. The rest were not as impressed.

i've never heard a loud clicking noise from mine, occasionally i hear a tiny squeak type noise when they come up for air, but that's about it

Yep, mine do that too. But the neighbours just reported that we've got bats in our attic, so they were probably the ones doing the clicking I heard. Mystery solved!
