Panda Corys Died!!

Hi

I had 3 panda corys since October I think in my aquarium along with other fish all which seem happy enough together.

On new years eve noticed one was missing when cleaning tank. They hide a but swim about too. But is possible he was missing before this day. in gravel saw tiny white flakes which could possibly have been little bones but have no idea. If he had died a couple days before that would he have been eaten or decomposed fast?

I was really sad but still had my other two. Then today I saw another panda cory lying completely lifeless on bottom of tank, he had seemed fine before as I had been keeping careful eye on them all since 1st one vanished. I am so upset only had few months and were so cute and funny. MY LFS is very good and guy I deal with there is very knowledgable and caring about the fish and only gets really good quality stocks of fish from breeders. I now have one panda cory left and am so worried he may die too since the other 2 died (i'm presuming 1st did)

Water conditions are perfect and I do regular water changes. I make sure temperature and everything always same.

Any idea what could have caused this. When I removed his little body from tank today he looked perfect but was dead!

Is this just bad luck for no reason or was there some hidden cause?

Has anyone had panda corys die after few months for no reason?

im so sorry you lost your babies...its so frustrating when we dont know why.....cories are super super sensitive to water conditions so a few questions id ask is what exactly were the water parims? what test kit are you using? did you change anything in the tank recently? filter media, decorations, subtrate? did you add anything new recently? those are just a few to begin with ...I just love the cories and I hope things get better!

Hi

I added 4 bleeding heart tetras which were wild caught, about 3-4 weeks ago. They are a little bigger than most of my fish apart from my blue dwarf gourami.

Temp 25 C (77 F)

35gallons

I use API Test Kits

ammonia is 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 10, pH 6.5, GH 120ppm, KH 60ppm

My Fish are:

1 blue dwarf gourami

1 panda cory

4 red eye tetras

4 rummy nose tetras

4 neon tetras

3 neon cardinals

4 bleeding heart tetras

I am under impression that the 4 bleeding heart tetras are probably only wild caught of my fish.

All current fish seem healthy and happy though the remaining panda cory looks a bit lonely but still healthy and eating.

I feed my fish a mixture of Tetra Pro Vegetable, Tetra Pro Colour (both these are 'multicrisps' type of food) and Tetra Prima (this is a granular food)

Everything such as gravel, decorations, filter etc same as when started aquarium one year ago approx. I do regular water changes of 1/4 usually.

Thanks for reply

The almost exact same thing happened to me, except my cories were three line cories, and they had these scary, awful seizures before they died, where they rocketed around the tank upside down. The best I can think is that something was wrong with them internally, like a heart or lung problem, because mine had no worms or funguses either. My water was good too. I'm so sorry to hear about your fish, I wish I had something to suggest, but I'm still mystified by mine. If your next panda doesn't die soon, you need to get him some more friends, or he'll end up dying from stress. Oh, and you might want to check the filter for the first cory.

Sorry about your little corys.

I"ve been keeping fish forever and they mostly live long and healthy lives, but I've been unable to keep Pandas alive for long.

I was asking about this on Planet Catfish and posted a pic of one of mine before it died. They noticed something I hadn't and that was that the facial area was a bit reddened and that the barbels were shortened. This indicated some sort of bacterial infection, yet my other fish were, and continue to be healthy.

If you get more Pandas, I really suggest you QT for several weeks, and feed them well with bloodworms, brineshrimp and some sinking wafers (Hikari is best I find!) to build them up. If you see any signs of the infection I mentioned, "BINOX" by Jungle Labs seems to be a good choice of treatment for them.

Also, 77 degrees is a bit high for corys, especially if the Pandas were not in great shape when you got them. 75 would be better.
