I'm looking at buying a/couple of cories for my 10 gallon. The problem is, I have a Convict Cichlid in it already. Would Coal (my fish) murder the cories if I put them in there?

Yup.
Convicts should be kept with bigger cichlids which can handle their aggression.

I think cories would do best with dwarf cichlids of some kind. Fire mouths can either be aggressive or passive.

Wait a second. That's contradictory. In your original post, you said that Coal would murder any cories. And now you're saying that a cichlid would be best with a cory? Huh? Anyways, I went to Nahacky's Aquarium today. I asked the guy who worked there what he recommended, and he said it would probably be fine for the Firemouth and Convict to be together. They kept both species together in their tanks, so why would it be any different in mine?

P.S. We went to Nahacky's for my brother to get a fish for his tank. His little puffer is so cute!

ive had both convict and firemouth together. not gonna recommend it.

convicts arent bad alone or same sex...there is that exception to the rule tho...a mating pair is totally dangerous...just make sure whatever you decide, to have a back up tank just in case..and ANY fish you add, remove the convict for a bit, redo the deco and put in the new fishies..then add coal about 30-40 min after

The only cichlids that cories should be kept with are; discus, angels, kribensis, apistogramma cichlids(dwarf South American cichlids), and a few other really small cichlids. Other then that, cichlids and cories are not a good mix.
