cory input needed

I am about own a 55 gallon tank and im going to have 6 upside down catfish in it. Im in a bit of a bind here as to what cory's i should get. there are so many varieties of them i have seen. When i get these, i need to have at least 5 of each species, but enough to take up the rest, or a little below, the space in the tank, without making it overcrowded and having too many fish per gallon etc. Any suggestions on a good community combination of cory's without overcrowding the tank? Thanks

My favorite are Panda Cories. I have 3 of them (along with 6 others, all of which are different kinds). Mine have stayed small, I've had them for over 18 months and they are still only about an inch long.
What other fish do you plan on putting in your tank?

I have 2 pandas, 1 sterbai, 2 longfinned peppered and 2 pygmy corys. I've mixed and matched here and there for awhile but right now, the pandas and peppered are in one tank, the pygmy and sterbai in another. The pygmies (Corydoras habrosus) will reach 1.5" and are the cutest things you've ever seen. I think the pandas are my favorites but the pygmies are running a close 2nd! I wouldn't worry so much about getting 5 of any one species (unless you are ordering them online -- I've noticed that a lot of places only sell them in groups of 3 or 5) -- all the species will shoal together very well.
Your upside down cats (if they are Synodontis nigriventris) run a bit under 4" apiece which which will leave you room for quite a few cory unless you plan to add something besides bottom dwellers. I am very partial to the cory cats myself but I like some fish in the mid- and upper-levels of the tank as well as on the bottom. Let us know what you end up with!
