Peppered Cory - vanished?

Hi,

I have a planted tank with Eco Complete substrate. I've had a Peppered Cory for almost 5 months now and he was a big 2". I put in 2 Oto Cats 2 weeks ago and noticed they would sometimes "climb" or even "suck" on him.

This morning, I could not find my cory. I took out all my plants and combed through the substrate (ended up with bacterial bloom with the huge media disturbance). I checked the filter. I shone a flashlight at all the holes in my drift wood. I have no idea what happened.

My other fish are Microrasbora erythromicron, golden pristellas and zebra danios. So they don't really go near the bottom.

With only the Oto Cats interacting with him, I hate to ask if it's possible they ate him. My tank was clean (was because of the present bacterial bloom) so I would drop in algae wafers. I did not drop in an algae wafer last night though...

The Oto Cats are definitely not CAE. CAE have scales.

Thanks angelfish. I just checked the floor around the aquarium and underneath the stand and no cory.

do you have pond snails in your tank, the little ones that come in on plants? if he died then they and to otos would have eaten it. but i dont think the otos killed him.

When you say 'you checked the filter' did you look in the back, or did you take it apart and look in the intake tube and everything? My latest fish death was a betta that got sucked up the filter.

No pond snails. Could do they do that in 5 hours? That's how long since I last saw him.

I dismantled the filter completely - every removable piece.

It's a Penguin bio-wheel so there isn't any non-access areas. I took out the impeller shaft and there isn't any further place to go.
