cories and otos

i'm thinking about getting 1-2 (3 at most) cories.

my main questions are whether cories and otos would get along well? do cories definitely need a substrate? what kind of cories are pretty easy/cheap to get/maintain? i am kinda more interested in the black or panda ones right now.

i have a heavily planted tank, and don't want my plants messed up either. would cories be ok in a jungle of java moss or would they be more likely to get tangled/hurt or would they do better in a tank with "regular" plants? are they likely to eat shrimp or is their mouth the modified kind like otos?

sorry for so many questions, and thanks in advance!

I have 4 cories and 4 otos and well, you see... THEY'RE GREAT!! You would probably want as many as you get because they sort of like to school. Also, my tank is failry well planted, and they are fine...

And their mouths are regular, but pretty small... I am not sure if they could eat the shrimp, but please tell me!

I doubt they would either one eat the shrimp but when the shrimp have eggs/ babies they may eat them before the shell hardens.

so they would get along with otos, but might eat shrimp babies.

do cories definitely need a substrate? i am kinda more interested in the black or panda ones right now - are those pretty easy to get/maintain?

Cories would do just fine in your setup. They get along great with otos and love live plants. Don't worry about them messing up the plants or getting tangled.
