Lazy Cory

I own 3 cory cats. 1 panda, 1 spotted, 1 albino.

i bought them all at the same time. Spotted was full grown, panda was medium, and the albino was tiny.

I've had them for like a month. the albino is very active and has grown almost twice his size. the spotted is very active, but hasn't grown because he was bought full grown.

The panda is very very lazy. It stays in the same spot of the tank almost all the time. It hardly ever eats. It appears to have gotten smaller since it was purchased. I'm concerned it's either sick or it needs a tankmate to cheer it up or something.

If anyone has any suggestions how i can get my panda cory cat moving, active, eating, and growing i would be very appreciative. Thank you.

What size tank are they in and how long has it been set up?
If you have room and it is cycled they may each like more of their own kind. This will sometimes make them more active.

Can you see the cory "whiskers" They could have been injured some how before you got it,like having a sore tooth, it can't eat. If your others are thriving, I wouldn't think the substrate bottom you have would be the cause. Rough stone, shell pieces etc, can bother their barbrells (sp?)Do you have a hospital tank or place for him to eat without having to swim for food and rub his whiskers? Some fish protector or other product may help ...just offfering some suggestions

I agree with Butterfly, maybe he would feel more comfortable with some companions.

Hi!

I think Drea has hit the spot. He'd be happier with tankmates - but he could be suffering from barbell loss.

Usually even with barbel damage they will swim around and even. It's just harder to find food.

So, having 3 corys...of different types could be the reason for one type to not flourish? There are 3 corys in the tank now....so adding another 1 or 2 corys of the same type will help? Do corys know that they are pandas or peppers??

Hi!

Corys know what species they are. Albinos are the most active BTW, Pandas aren't as active.

Usually Corys of the same size and shape will school together and do fine. Pandas are a bit smaller and their more shy so their temperment is different. I imagine they know what kind they are because they won't cross breed.
