Julii or trilineatus
Hello, I bought these as julii corydoras for £3.95 each, but I'm wondering if they are actually trilineatus. Can anyone confirm either way?
Also, is it possible to tell the sex of them from these pictures?
Thanks!

My cory cats are the same and I had the same problem but they are in fact C. trilineatus due to the horizontal stripe along the side of the body follows the entire length of the body and there are larger spotting on the body in comparison to the julii.
The julii are much rarer. See the attached link.

I've seen those sold here in the US as Julii as well.

It's ok. I didn't go specifically looking for Julii. To be honest, these were my first fish and I just picked out the corys that looked the cutest in the LFS!

That is my proffered way of picking fish, only if it involves a lot of research beforehand.

my LPS (pet supermarket) had trili's misidentified as well yesterday with a price tag of 4.00 more than the bronze, green or albino

That gets to me because when I see stuff like that I don't know if the store just has unqualified employees or its just trying to milk more money out of paying customers.

I guess I'm lucky, my LFS has julii's for 3 bucks less than their trills but I'm still not gonna snatch them up at 12.99 a peice! They overprice their cories horribly. Plus I'm not sure if they are true julii's, they could just be another species of cory as there are so many out there.
I have seen people with julii's before, one guy elsewhere was lucky enough to have a breeding tank going of true julii's but he was an importer and got all the cool fish.

Is this a Julii?
Love the site and love the catfish. Being a cat person (the furry mammal kind of cat), it was natural that I keep cats in my tanks as well. I bought this little guy because he/she was all alone in a great big tank at the LFS. I was told then that he was a Julii cat but I have yet to come up with a positive ID. So, can anyone help me figure out what he is? He is about 1.5 - 2 inches long, his dorsal fin is long and soft and flows back past his tail (bent over in the picture). One pectoral fin is shorter than the other (possibly an injury?), the long one is about 1 inch long as seen in the picture. Colour is silver gray with darker splotches, his tail is normal shaped with little spots radiating out.
I have 3 cory cats in with my tetras and 2 in with the guppies. I have not been able to find another 'julii-cat' since I bought this one. This one lives with my platies. If I did find another one, would it be safe to add it to this tank? I've had this one alone for easily a year or so. Could I add another type of catfish to keep him company?
Thanks!!

Hey betta-cat, I saw that exact type of cory in the LFS yesterday and I think they had them labeled as "Long-Fin Peppered" and I'm betting it is C. paleatus. You could probably add another one or two as they are a schooling fish, if your stocking conditions allow.

That cat has really long flowing fins, sorry for the interruption but he sounds cool. Hope you ID him and get him some buddies soon.
