help! my cory cat's tail!!

I've had my cory cat for two or three years, and she's been a very hardy fish. I upgraded to a bigger aquarium (still small, though. 10 gal.) and put her in and then 4 zebra danios.

The problem is that the danios seem to be the resident bullies of my tank and like to nip at fins. They seem to have left her alone for the first couple of months, but then they "found" her. They hadn't really gone to the bottom of the tank much, and she had hiding spots. I put some other fish in so there would be a buffer and they wouldn't gang up on her, (which worked, thank goodness!) but not until they'd gotten to her tail.

My poor cory is missing her tail now!

Is there a possibility that it will grow back? Her other fins look fine.

I'm very attached to her. I was considering separating my cory from the danios, but I really don't have room for another tank at the moment. (Small living space...) And nobody I know wants my spastic fish!

I'm just hoping this doesn't hurt her in the long run. She seems to be swimming fine, but I'd still like some input!

Thanks for helping!!

Welcome to FishLore.

We had a young cherry barb fry lose her tail not too long ago and it did grow back. Here's a link to the thread on her, hopefully the same treatment will help your cory. Is there a way to seperate her from them, maybe with a tank divider?

My baby Cherry Barb is dying :'''(

Thanks! I'll try the treatment they were talking about.

I have a couple of other fish in the tank that serve as a distraction now and the danios don't pay any attention to my cory. Apparently the newer fish are more entertaining.

Good for the cory, bad for my other fish.

Knowing my nosy danios, they'd end up in the wrong side of the divider anyway. They're clever fish, if anything.

I'm trying to get them moved out of the tank a.s.a.p. I'll ask my LFS if they'll take them.

Thanks for your help!
