My Cory just up and died!

Hi, One of my Cory's very, very suddenly fell to the bottom of the tank and had trouble staying up right, I suspected a swim bladder problem but was very surprised how quickly it came on. I cannot put it down to anything, but, it may of been bullied by a Male Platy which I'm having problems with? Anybody out there have any idea's?....

How long has your tank been set up? Did it go through the nitrogen cycle before you added fish?

Cories are one of those fish that have to have good water conditions to stay healthy, some fish are a lot more forgiving.

You need to test your water. Do you have an API Master test kit?

Let us know what your results are on....
ammonia:
nitrite:
nitrate:

This will give us lots more to be able to help you with.

Sorry about your Cory, they are lovely fish...

Water has been fine, water change weekly, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrates 10 to 20 ish. Why would the death come on so quickly?

Could be any number of things -- old age, some internal parasite that wasn't obvious, damage from an attack, or even just a genetic weakness that finally caught up with him.

I think overstocking might be the cause, in that the aggressive male platy most likely did him in.

I really don't know, Chelsea boy. I've had that happen to me the other month. He just looked perfect. In fact, I thought he was playing dead, like they do, but nope, he was gone. I don't really know what got him. He was in perfect shape. No sign of disease or damage.
