Hey guy's guess what! I've had three panda cory's, which are very hard to find in LFS's. I've had these panda's a little over a year and they are the only original fish I have left from when I first began this fish hobby a little over a year ago. I'd read they are very difficult to breed in a home aquarium, and after having them for so long with no babies, I had given up on them ever breeding. But.....
This morning when I got up and was looking in the tank, I saw a baby panda cory swimming around. And by the size of him/her, he's been in there for quite a while. Now I've seen my other cory's laying eggs which always disappeared later from being eaten by other fish. So imagine my surprise when I saw this panda baby swimming around. He's been hiding all this time while growing. He's about 3/4" long now but still looks tiny compared with the other corys. I've wanted these panda's to breed since I got them last year because they are my favorite fish in this tank (55 gal.)
I was so excited I wanted to share this with everyone. I hope to post pictures later when he's not so timid.
Thank You Neville, I only have one baby. If there are more, I haven't seen them yet. I'm surprised this one made it as long as he did. I've never had babies born from egglayers before. I never even knew one was pregnant.
As it's very rare to have panda corys breed in a home aquarium, I don't think removing more fish would help anyway. I'm just proud to have the one new edition. I haven't been able to find any more panda corys at any local fish stores since I first bought these last year.
Here's another pic.

Thats awesome. So cute and little. Ive also got three of them that I got about a year ago and I havent seen any since either. Which is to bad because I was hoping to have 5 of them. Anyways Congratulations!
Oh, how wonderful! The baby is so cute and looks happy too :-)
I have been adding more and more plants to my tanks and look every once in a while just in case there are babies or eggs. I hope someday to find a similar surprise in my aquariums!
I just can't believe this baby panda got as big as he did without me ever seeing him before. It's simply amazing. I have mostly corys in this 55 gal. tank, 3 mollys (one's a baby), 2 cherry barbs, several plecos, and a large iridescent shark I'm trying to find a home for. I could never be persuaded to sell my panda's. They're too hard to come by,
As you said, Badger, after having them for over a year with no offspring, it was a shock to find this one. The other three panda's must have guarded him well.
I've noticed that mama and daddy panda keep a close eye on the youngster. They always try to keep the wee one between them. It's sooo cute. I'm curious tho, I've never seen the little one go topside for air like the others. Do they only do that after they're grown?

I could be wrong, but I think it's sort of an 'optional' behavior for cories to go to the surface for air. they may do it while playing or if the water is low on oxygen or the chemistry is off. maybe the little one hasn't explored that yet and won't until he feels safe doing so? that does sound really cute and would make great pics or a vid to post. <hint, hint>
I thought I read somewhere when I first got the corys that like betta's, they go to the surface for air. I have air bubbles in the tank so I know it's not from lack of oxygen. The baby hasn't got very adventuresome yet, he's still kinda of cautious. I will definitely consider the video thing though. I got a new cam-corder for mother's day this year, But making the file small enough to post is what I have to work on.

I think they can breathe from the surface and in the water. Anyone else want to weigh in on this who knws corys really well?

Cories rely mostly on the water for their oxygen. However they all do occasionally gulp air from the surface, no matter what the oxygen content of the water.
That is soooo cool that your Cories bred. Have you considered setting up a separate breeding tank for them so you can raise the fry?
There is a great article on Cory breeding on Planet Catfish, but apparently the site is down at the moment. Once the site is back up I'll give you a link....
