Nano Reef Plans

I was talking to atmmachine today about a nano tank and decided that I want one in the future. I have decided on a 5.5 gallon that would go on my desk. It would cost around 350 dollars for everything so I have to save up some money but thats okay because I am going to wait a good while before I get it. I will just write any ideas or plans that I have in this thread.

fine coral for your tank, though might get larger and may need to frag it. Check with local stores if y ou can sell coral frags to them. Mine will buy them from me so I have somewhere to sell my corals.

Haha. Nice emphasis on that devious third letter of my name.

I saw one early on the Nano Reef gallery and loved it. Pulsing Xenia and GSP are now my two favorite corals. I have found a source that can get me some frags for free but they said not to tell . They will be getting me some finger leather, capnella, purple mushrooms, and green button polyps. I then plan on adding the pulsing xenia and some GSP. So I have my corals planned out. I just need to get these plecos to hurry up and GROW!!!!

I know where I am getting all of my equipment and livestock so everything is already planned out I just need to wait. WHICH I HATE DOING!!!!

Sounds really good, i don't see a problem with any of that equipment.

Might i suggest starting with a crocea clam instead of a Maxima. They are usually cheaper, readily available and tend to be a bit easier to keep. I do like Maximas better though, much cooler patterns especially the zebra maximas. I have a Cocea in my 10gal and its doing amazingly well.

You might want to consider something like one of those wave maker power strips and plug the maxi jets into that. Would give a good random flow. Might be nice when it comes time for corals.

I want it to look like this. Basically a canyon type thing. One straight wall and the other slightly urved and "disappearing" behind the first wall.

You know you can have more fish. That canyon idea is somewhat what my tank looks like. It have the big pices of LR on the back going up and on the side goes down steeply. What kind of lighting are you going to have?? Don't clams need T-5s and up?? Get some torch corals. They are almost like anemones but without the worry that they will die and kill everything in the tank. Your clownfish might even host it. Get xenia I heard its an awesome coral. Keep us informed!!

Just sent you a PM Cory.

I love the canyon/valley type of aquascape. Its a pretty tough one to pull off good, but is awesome when you do.

I like the suggestion of frogspawn inplace of anemones. Frogspawns, Hammers, torchs...all will work and all can and do host clowns quite a bit.

Fishrule: I really dont have more room for fish as far as how I want it(understocked and simple fishwise). I am going to get Metal Halide lighting (150W) which is perfect for clams. I never said anything about anemones? I planned on getting either a torch or some anthias for the clowns to host. Thanks!
