About Button Polyps.

Hey Everyone

Okay so on my live rock i got ONE button polyp. Just ONE single one. Which is kind of annoying, (and my tank has been up for a year now, and no others have appeared) So i was just wondering if they'res a way to duplicate it or make it reproduce without having to buy more (because i'm tight ) It has quite a long stork for a button polyp, but it most defintaly is one

I mean, do i chop the top off of it or smoething??
And if so how would i keep that?? I don't have a frag shelf or anything...

any help would be COOL!

Most button polyps are keen to grow pretty fast (or so i've been told). Corals need a good amount of light and certain trace elements to grow. (i'm not sure what they are with zoas but it's probably something like strontium, iodine, and calcium). Check your calcium levels and buy some Purple Up. Purple Up has all those nice trace elements to help corraline algae grow as well as corals.

What even if there is only one?? Or will it not matter?

the way most zoas propagate is by growing and then splitting into clones (or at least all the species i have).

Well saying that i'm not even sure it is, I DID have a post about it though, I'll Grab the link, could you check it out?? I thought it would split, but it hasn't ACTUALLY seemed to do that! 0.0
I will also try to nab some of that purple up stuff, or something similar if they don't have that in england

what is this mystical being before me? :o

There is the thread when i first discovered it, and looking at it now, the top of it looks a little bit more smalled than that!
I need to get that stuff fast! D:

IMO you should never dose anything you can't test for. If you don't have a calcium test kit and don't know what level you're starting from, I wouldn't mess with Purple Up. It isn't necessary to grow coralline anyway. I keep SPS and LPS corals in 2 tanks and still don't dose calcium- my water changes and salt mix are enough to keep my Ca level at 420.

I'm guessing that you have insufficient lighting for corals. No supplement is going to fix that. Palythoas (it's not a zoanthid) are easy low light corals, but your lighting seems to be at the point where it is just surviving and not thriving. Palys spread quickly when they are happy.

nawwh I can't afford to upgrade my lights, how long are these ment to live for? So long as it lives that long i will be able to upgrade my lighting.

honestly, i have no idea. Just the lights what came with the tank. I think they're florecents.. all i know is that they're REALLY bright without the reflector on.

I tried googling what it says on the light with no luck, but now its kinda rubbed off, but i think it says:

...
okay the only bit i can make out says 'Jim Long'
and then a bit in chinese or something.. the rest has completely rubbed off

If the lights came with the tank, they are probably inadequate. With proper lighting, it's more like looking into the sun

Wowzer.
Well i've turned the peice of rock around, so that the polyp is now facing into the tank, instead of being smushed up against the back glass. Would positioning the prock higher help? or not at all?

The only reason i suggest is because i seriously don't have the cash to upgrade right now. =[
