Elegant or Elegance corals have attracted me for a long time, but the general concensus is that they are one of the most difficult to keep, and have a very poor survival rate even with the most experienced of aquarists. I'm eager but don't want to set myself up for failure. Anybody?

Nope, never kept one. Wish I could help. How much are they in Canada ?

They run $60 to $70 , my local store has just renovated, and all the tanks are new. They just brought in the first shipment, but I visited three days in a row and I see degradation in health in a lot of specimens, so I deffinatly won't be getting one from them anytime in the next couple months. Are they cheaper in SoCal?

Nope ... Nothing is cheap in SoCal. LOL

I live in SoCal . I would say the things are as expensive as online. I have seen elegance coral at my LFS they can take care of it really well. They even get frags.
