Chili Coral

Greetings!

I'm a bit concerened about my chili coral. He's not perked up and exhibited the white polyp extensions in some time. He's also sporting some weird brown tube-looking things that have been gradually taking him over. So, I'm a bit worried. I give him a targeted feeding every now and then with DT's Live Marine Phytoplakton and he seemed to enjoy it in the past; but, I'm not getting a reaction anymore.

...any ideas?

Yup. they are def aiptasia. Use hyperdermic needle to gently suck them out from the base. Achieved better result than injecting chemicals (lemon juice, hot water, etc). Peppermint Shrimps were hit and miss from my experiences. Unless eradicate now, may see more asnd more popping up bothering/irritating/killing corals. Check to see if Aiptasia retract at night and if they, do target feed at night to see if white polyps extend out.
Eradicate them now.

I appreciate the tips. I'm quite a bit disappointed in the Aiptasia. I've always been pretty lucky in letting the tank grow as it will and I'm not a big fan of things that don't play nice. Again, much thanks.

Just a small update about my coral. I put him in an area with a bit more circulation and at night he's busting out the white polyps again. I also squirted a bit of JoesJuice into the feeding orifice of the Aiptasia. Holy Cow! The Aiptasia shriveled in on itself and melted into a puddle. I don't know what's in it; but, it worked nicely. After watching the effect on the Aiptasia, I was a bit worried about the coral; but, I've seen no negative reaction yet.

Yep, it's been over a week and I've seen no ill effects to the coral. I'm hoping that he fleshes up a bit without the parasites.
