mixing corals

i have a 36 gallon tank 48X12x15. It will have t5 lighting with 216 watts. I am not sure what types of corals i will be able to mix. I know that I want a anemone for my clown but i am still not sure on this combination either. I have heard that some anemones will wonder in so stinging other corals. What corals go together keeping in mind i want the anemone?

you need to wait a while before adding a anemone or they normally die as they need a mature tank ,, and also high lighting ,, yes they will move around untill they find there preffered spot , try your clowns with a bubble coral or a large mushroom ,,,

All corals can go together. Just watch out for their placement. Don't let SPS touch something like Zoas, Mushrooms etc. Don't let mushrooms touch SPS, don't let LPS touch much at all (They let out long sweeper tentacles at night). Its just the placement of each coral you have to watch out for. They all can coexist in a single tank though.

I agree with the anemone.

I'm wondering about coral combinations myself, so I'm glad you asked. I'm fairly new with reef tanks and have added some soft corals and one SPS coral. My goal is also to get an anemone. I had my water tested today at the LPS and there are trace amounts of nitrite (less than .5) so I'm going to wait a few more weeks.

My concern is, I have only 15lbs of live rock in my 30g tank and am wondering if I need more in order to add more coral or the anemone? It doesn't seem that I have a lot of flat surfaces to place the soft corals on, so is it okay to place them on the substrate? Totally confused. Any suggestions?

@jayro, Your going to need more live rock. At least 30 lbs in a 30 gallon tank. This is you biological filtration, and is very important to achieving a stable saltwater tank. As for an anemone, they require intense lighting for long term health. 78 watts of T5 lighting is not enough.

Having kept few different types of anemones for long time under florescent, MH, HO, VHO, PC and combinations, I really dont understand the all the fuss about anemones. Do know some are more difficult or requires/demands more but should not be too afraid to handle them. Depending on the types of clown, one should decide on what kind of anemone. Just do bit more research on what you want and give it what it requires especially feeding.

One should just make sure one being purchased are not damaged or dont get damaged during bagging . Do remember when ordered dozen anemones of same kind, not all arrived in same conditions thus try purchasing healthy specimen to begin with.

When anemones are mixed with corals, I tend to have less issues/problems with taller tank than shallow tank (less chances of anemone coming in contact with corals).

IMO, 216W of lighting (mixture of day and act, etc) in 15" tall tank should be sufficient enough for most anemones.

Hope this helped a bit.
