brain coral

Ok so we bought a open brain coral on sunday. He deflated while being moved and fish guy said that was normal and would puff up in a couple of days. Got him home and found good spot close to light and have been feeding with eye dropper but he still hasn't puffed up. Is he stressed or dying? We are feeding reef plankton and mysis. Lighting is T5 10k on white and 67k on purple. We also treated with calcium supplement.

try feeding at night with brine shrimp or micro plankton and needs bright lighting . check your water parameters ,, they do deflate when stressed give it a few more days if it dont come back up then try and return to LFS

Thanks so much! Will try night feeding. Do you think our lighting is strong enough? We use T5 at 10k on the white and 67k on the purple.

Is that a single 10k bulb or is it 2? I ask because I have a green brain coral. Between that one and the frogspawn that I have, I ended up upgrading my lighting for them. They definitely responded to the new lights. But then again so did the diatoms...uugggg

One thing that you need to consider when purchasing or receiving corals is what kind of light are they in originally. If at the store it was under a T5 or MH lights how far away is the coral from the light? You need to acclimate corals to the light just like you acclimate fish to the water. If at the store it was under T5's but at a distance of 3-4 feet and now in your tank it is only at a distance of only 6"-1' the light might be too much for it and it is stressing because of it. Try moving the coral to a spot in the tank that can closely mimic the intensity of light that it was getting and over time slowly move it back to were you want it.
