why is one fish larger than the other?

hi im new to this site i believe i have convicts either pink or albino and i was wondering why one of the fish is extremely bigger than the other i have had them for over a year and one is still the same exact size it was when i brought it. also they have had babies i have some that are about 2 months old or alittle over 2 months old when i tried to put the two big fish back in the tank with them the bigger fish which i think is the female was eating them so i had to remove them

Hi welcome to FishLore!!
Hope you don't mind, I moved your question to a thread of it's own.
It'll get more attention this way.

I have 3 Convicts in my 150.
One of them hasn't grown since I recieved her. It's odd, she eats well & acts healthy. She just doesn't grow.
The other 2 I recieved in the same shipment are getting huge. It may just be the fish itself. Especially if you bought them from a chain store like Petsmart/Petco. With overbreeding, you never know what you're going to get.

Welcome to Fishlore!

I have a convict spawn that I'm growing out. They were all born in September and they're all different sizes. I think some of it is genetics and some of it is how much food they're getting. If one of your convicts has a very strong personality and the other is laid back, the convict with the stronger personality will eat more food.

Hope this helps!

Convicts are not too tolerant of new additions.

You stated you have 3 tanks. I only saw one listed in your profile. Could you update your profile to reflect all three tanks? That would help us hopefully find a solution to your problem.

Thanks

convicts are very picky with new additions to the tank that are smaller and normally will eat them, best way is either to let the parents raise them while carefully watching or to remove parents once babies are big enough and raise them yourself. Do not add the babies back with parents until they are full grown for best results. Over all if you have three tanks keep each ages separate. Babies in one tank juvenile in second and parents in third.
Good Luck with them.
