Alright, Vulcan (its a she! she just has an awesome name ) is alone in the 35g.

There is a male at my LFS... he is about 4-5 inches and is in an overcrowded 20g tank with africans cichlids.

Vulcan is barely 1 1/2....

I know she's gonna throw a fit if i add a small boy.... the thing is will she accept him being all big? i really would like to get him....

Its either him or going with a few africans...

I was thinking about that, i could just pull out the eggs before they are born, or i could raise a few of them and sell them to my LFS, they are really nice about that, they take fry for store credit..

Pull out Convicts eggs? Are you kidding me? They will go after you, maybe kidnap you out of bed at night... Why do you think they call them Convicts? They all end up with criminal records if someone dares messing with their offspring, or even neglecting their care.

Now seriously, I breed Convicts on a regular basis. I give away the juveniles (some end up as young adults due to my limited abilities in catching them all) to different LFS for free. I admire their parenting behavior (as most Cichlids do).

Don't worry about the size differences, they most likely than not will pair up. You could perform a major tank re-scaping just before introducing the pretending male so the one already there don't fight with him. Expect some show-off, usually nothing serious, just part of being Convicts.

Thanks pepe. I was thinking and im gonna pull out most of my current deco and leave a little in there. That way when the boy gets here i can add it all back and hope for the best. You're saying they wont pair up, or that they will? LOL i was confused

I say get him Tony, they will pair up.

Lots of hiding spots for her, try to make a few she can fit into that he can not since he is so much bigger than her and you should be ok.
