Do convict cichlids have to be the same species to breed?

Are you referring to being the same color pattern? Like pinks and stripes breeding? Convicts will interbreed not only with different color patterns of themselves, but they've also been known to breed with totally different NW cichlids species.

I have a male pink convivt and a female black one and they just had babies. i'm just wondering if anyone knows what colour they will be? I'm a little impatient. Also will the female breed with any other type of cichlid?

You will probaly get the stripes
Some Female have been known to breed With New world cichlids

It would also help if you started a new thread instead of hiajacking other threads

i was just wondering if the convict cichid can mate and have fertile babies with the hybrid blood red parrot cichid.

parrots very rarely fertile. if you can get the con a parrot to mate without killing each other and a subspecies was formed then no....that species would be sterile.

it would be like getting a lion and tiger to mate and getting a liger or a horse to mate with a donkey to get a mule. The liger and mule are then sterile.

You should get a mix. Pinks, Blacks, and Marbled.

all striped black ones with the pink gene..if you get the babies to spawn with eachother, you will have a 50/50 chance of pinks..spawning a pink fry with a 50/50 sib is the way to get marbles
yes most certainly they can..they are called jelly bean cons..and I as well as some members here, have a few it happens most when the con is male and the parrot is female..but the more parrots are bred, the better the males are becoming more fertile...most female parrot fish have been fertile for ever

My cons just had fry and pushing the limit in terrtory.

If i remove the fry will they stop being to over terrotrial

if they just had fry and you remove them they will possibly mate again and that could kill the wife. My cons were territorial with each other when they had fry but it stopped a couple weeks later.

It'll take a day or two, but yes after you remove the fry, they should settle down.
