Can a Convict be kept alone?

I have always wanted a convict, I think they are absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately my largest tank is only 29g. I was considering buying a convict for the tank and leaving him or her alone with no other tank mates, but I am not sure if it would be too mean. I considered buying a pair, but I really do not want them to mate, and from what I read they mate like rabbits.

So, I suppose my question is, would a convict be happy alone or would he or she be lonely and depressed?

So two male or two female convicts won't fight? I would love to put two together, but I just want to be safe and sure first!

Thanks so much!

Friendly advice-get them at the same time from the same tank. That will prevent any "introduction" issues

Convicts can live happily on their own, its going to be mean either way , they're nasty little fish; when I first got my female, she wiped out an entire tank of about 10-15 fish, including an oscar 3 times her size; if you dont want them to breed then definitely dont get pair, they do breed really easily. Im not sure how well two of the same sex would be (it should be fine though) but if thats a route you choose to go, take Bolivianbaby's advice and introduce them into the tank together so one wont establish their territory and see the other as an intruder.
