Brian | +2 mare....cons are so interbred its not funny..but not unusual as they mature fast and gosh knows reproduce even faster lol
I started with 2 stripes from the LFS 2-3 years ago... ...I then got a spawn from them(many times)...I took a male from that spawn and spawned with a pink con from a buddy of mine(spawned them 3 times)...from their spawn I got all striped babies...its their babies spawning that are giving me these colors...did i loose ya? cause i did myself !! |

| With cons being very popular and a great first cichlid to breed, I am curious if any members have ever kept the convicts cousin, Cryptoheros Nanoluteus (the yellow convict)?
I have never seen them for sale but know they are around from time to time.
Or the Archocentrus sp. "Honduran Red Point" ( known simply as HRP's) I have had these guys.
Just curious if any members have seen these fish or kept them.

| never seen them and both are very interesting! ty for the info brian!
amanda if dad is one from me, hes a half pink ...if not, he has some half pink in him somewhere along his lines ..a full stripped con / pink con cannot have half pinks...it takes 1-2 generations of their babies spawning to get pinks to different ratios.. |

| That is some really nice color for a convict. What do you feed them? Breeding the two of them together should produce some pink fry. My BN trio were all brown, but both females produced about 25% albino fry each spawn.
I had several pairs of HRP's last year, then sold them to make room for the chanchito's I have now. One pair had spawned twice, but the eggs were eaten before they hatched both times. |

I am stuck with A. Scitulus and A. sp. Red Ceibal.
Any more spawns from them?

| They spawned 6 times before taking a break, just started again last week. The eggs didn't last long with their current tankmates though. I have some 2" juvies listed on aquabid now. |

if i breed these 2, they should have 25-50% pinks...they are second generation half/halfs....wigglers to 1/2- 1 inch on bbs/bloodworms, decapulated shrimp eggs, golden pearls, and spirulina flakes..now its mainly kens premium cichlid mix , spirulina, and bloodworms ... |

| IME diet often has a significant effect on color, particularly bloodworms and spirulina. |
