If convicts breed

Hey Guys

i have a 4 foot tank with a oscar, two firemouths, 3 convicts, and 3 jewels. they are all about 3 inches except 2 of the convicts a male and a female are only about 1.5 inches. im just freaking out because the to baby convicts are a male and female and i think have paired up. my question is if they spawn will my other fish survive. they are all much larger than the convicts, and i have thousands of hiding spots including, plants, rocks, caves, driftwood, flowerpots, shipreck.

i know the 65 gallon tank is to small for these fish in the future but im getting a bigger tank next year

thanks for any help.

Zachary are you asking about the babies (fry) surviving or the other community fish in your tank? Parents can be very aggressive towards other fish in the tank when they are guarding their young. With all of the hiding spots that you have you may end up with a few fry survivors but there is no way to guarantee that. It's a possibility that even the parents may eat the fry it's just hard to say. The other fish in your tank may end up with a few bruises or a bruised ego but should be ok.

Shawnie will be able to answer this better than me, but I'd say that if they spawn your other fish could be in trouble. Convicts are one the most aggressive fish, especially when spawning, and will take on fish much bigger than themselves.
