Convict spawn...FAIL

Just an update for Shawnie & everyone:
The pink con is a FEMALE - she just laid eggs...too bad the juvie in the tank ATE them. Also one of the juvies in the 55 gal. just colored up with an orange belly, so I have at least one other female.

I'm sorry the eggs got eaten. That stinks! Sounds like your cons are doing well though. How many do you have?

Oh...she protected them, the juvie got the tar beaten out of it. But then she started eating them too.

if she was a pure con , the juvie would have been dead

I think he's a male, which is why she's tolerating him. Regardless, there are no eggs. Maybe they'll get it right next time.

Well, I just went downstairs to check on the tanks before I went to bed, and the female is fanniing around 100 eggs inside of the terra cotta pot. So, I'll see if they're fertilized tomorrow when I get up. If not, hopefully she'll eat them.

Ok, UPDATE:
The female is still fanning around 100 - 150 eggs. They are a darker color, what does that mean? Fertilized or unfertilized?

Good luck with this batch!! Still waiting on mine to be free swimmers. I love that pink one you have.

Shawnie I did not realize that the pink ones were not full convicts....learn something new everyday.

Fingers and toes crossed here for some more con babies!

shes so good to us LOL ...i think I am very nawty for hijacking but amanda seems to let me slide now and then

heres a pure pink con DSC01054.jpg

and here is the jelly that i sent amanda rescued jellys.jpg

the pink cons are much much more leaner and not as round..and the jellys have much larger finnage and eyes...a pink cons mouth will shut all the way and a jelly always has some of it open and shaped more like a con(not as round as the blood reds are tho who always seem to have them open )

Thanks for the pics beautiful fish! I can't wait until my pink ones get here. A friend is sending them because I cannot find them anywhere around me. So now I can have Bonnie and Clyde (my reg cons) and a tank setup next to them with the pink ones....and I could possibly have jelly beans if I mix them with my BRPs. My hubby is so going to have to get to work on those extra tanks!!

Amanda you are a dear letting us hijack you like that...LOL. And the offer still stands if you need babies just holler and I will send them to you just for shipping fees.

Well, most of the eggs have turned white, and she's eating them. Not looking like I'm getting any babies this time.

I think it's kinda good that the eggs didn't hatch, now I don't have to worry about hundreds of babies.

Well Miss Witchy has finally calmed down & stopped trying to torture the other con juvie to death. The eggs were completely white this morning, and were consumed by this afternoon. There seems to be some relative peace in my 20 gal. once again. For now at least....
