So my mother convict just let about 20-30 little babys this morning.

And I didnt see any preperations so i wasnt prepared.


so honestly i have no idea what to do.

My mom is going to petsmart to see if they have one of those fry tanks you hang on the side.

But all my other alternate tanks are full.

What should I do??

you dont need a fry tank, mom will protect and raise them as dad will

should i try to feed them ground flake?

you can feed all of them flakes, baby brine shrimp, bloodworms, and beef heart...how old are the fry? are there any other fish in with them? mom and dad again do take on the care of raising the fry..they take turns guarding them..im sure she is just being a girl

Theres no other fish in there.


They are about 2 days old.

I feed them just cichlid stix.

but i know if i grind up flakes that the fry would be able to eat them.

I just didnt know if i should feed them now or when

they will eat leftovers in the tank for a couple weeks...as well they will eat ground flake food as soon as they are free swimmers...

How big do they have to be before i get rid of them?

I have a batch of probly 200 that just got their stripes ,I would say after 1 month they are perfectly fine with being transfered,sold,used as feeders,or givin away. As for the Female chasing the Male, That happens with one of my females,she does not let him near the babys,so I put an ornament in the tank for him to hide in.They don't need any food until thier lil egg sacks absorb and about 2 days after you see a moving mass of lil fishies you can grind up some fish food,and place a pinch under the water line,or as I like to put the food on a sea shell,and they swarm all over it,at least until mom spots it and stirs it up.but either way,it is hard to starve them as they are excelent foragers and will clean up after the parents.I just had a clutch of babies hatch yesterday. I will put a pic of the 1 month old babies and the 1 day old babies. good luck.
