I recently had my girlfriend pick me up a fish from the pet store while she was out running errands and she thought she would surprise me and bring home 4 fish instead of 1. Well she bought 2 convict cichlids and 2 africans, they are most generally the same size and they have been in the tank for 36 hours now, there is a lot of hiding spots including fake plants, rocks, and caves.....they seem to be doing really well but i was also told that the convicts and africans have different water parameters, ive been monitoring the water and it is doing good, the temp is 78, and the pH is 8.0.....so far so good, does anyone see any problems with this?

The convicts and africans have different water requirements, they need softer lower ph water where the africans like the higher ph.
They will survive in the tank, but the convicts will not thrive.

If the convicts pair off..The Africans will be toast...They really aren't compatible but it might work if they don't pair off...I'd be worried about the tiger barb and pleco you have in there though. They really won't do good.

convicts are gorgeous fish but they are MEAN, your other fish are in for quite an ordeal if they pair off like cesch said.

Its been about 36 hours since i've put the fish together, i had to take the tiger barb out due to the excessive fin napping it was doing to one of the convicts, the convicts and africans seem to be getting a long great! They don't fight at all, swim with each other and there is plenty of places to hide in my tank.....
