White Cotton on Plastic Plants??

I am not sure if I am asking this in the right thread but I am getting this white cotton looking stuff on my plastic plants and I am only getting it in the Tank with my Convicts and their babies. Is this normal??

I can see the fish are really messy. I am so afraid of siphoning the babies I have been putting off cleaning the gravel. I wanted the babies to get just a little bit bigger so that if I accidently siphon a few I will be able to see them in the bucket and put them back.

The plasic plants are what baffle me. Any help is appreciated.

hey JD..its ok to clean the tank..your babies will go to one side and stay there and you can clean the rest of the area...they should be old enough now to see them in the bucket....not sure what the white stuff is, a pic would be great..but im thinking its just algae and waste from not cleaning for fear of the babies getting sucked up...are your nitrates high? and remember, having to put a few back in the tank because they took a ride thru the hose, is much better then them dieing from bad water

I had trouble getting Pics. I need to get a better camera. Here are some pics of the white cotton stuff in the tank. Any suggestions on what is is and how to get rid of it would be great.

it just looks like waste to me.have you cleaned the tank yet?

Yes, but it doesn't all come up. Maybe I need to be more agressive with my siphoning. If it is waste then my two Convicts are way messier then my Oscar. I keep siphoning and it doesn't seem to go away but I am not giving up yet.
