platy ben

hey every1, i have a 60G community tank which im giving a make-over next weekend, im going to return all my current fish to the fish shop.
i intend to house just a pair of convict cichlids in the tank and breed them. i would like to set my tank up with some dark blue or light blue gravel, and then fill the tank with pieces of bogwood and a couple of pipes for the convicts.
does this sound like a suitable set up for them to breed in and will i need to cover the bottom of my pump to prevent the fry getting sucked up when they hatch?

Well I don't know anything about convicts...but I do know that you can cover the intake tube of a filter with a filter sponge...buy one that looks the right size and cut a hole down the middle of it and slide it up over the end of the tube...this not only keeps the fry from getting sucked up ( I do this for my guppies) it also acts as a prefilter and makes cleaning the filter easier and you need to do it less often...just remove and rinse the sponge...it also is a great bio sponge for bacteria to colonize....good luck.
