mixing and matching

New 75 gallon tank---please tell me, if I want some cichlids, AND a little variety-will one green terror, one jack dempsey, and one convict survive together? If not, but I want one larger fish, (a dempsey, terror or oscar,) what else could I add to the tank and not have world war III?

I just joined today and read your message concerning mixing fish with cichlids. Were you able to find any that got along? I have one lonely cichlid and want to add to my tank. Other cichlids just kill one another! Help??
Thanks......Lesli<><

I currently have an Oscar, a Jack Dempsey, and a Convict together in an 80 gallon. They get along great. It think a Green Terror should be fine with a JD and a convict but I have never kept the GT's myself.

Convicts

We just inherited 2 convicts. My husband is now worried about our other fish. Does anyone know what fish are compatable with these fish? We have in a 55 gal tank:
3 bala sharks
2 "headlight,taillights
1 angel fish
1 placo
1 catfish
2 convicts
1 gourami
3 neons

convicts alone arent bad..its when you have a fem and male together..then watch out they can take on an oscar..green terrors that ive had, even single ones, are plain ole mean...otherwise, a jd, oscar, and convict -1 of each, are fine in that size tank

So, going along with the question (I'm not trying to hijack this thread by any means), can you have other fish in a tank if you have a single convict? See, I just got a 55 gallon and want to use a convict as my showcase fish and have several other types of fish in there (haven't decided what yet, but ottos are a must). Would that work? Or will the convict kill off otto size fish? Thanks!

the convict will be fine ...buy one the small and have it grow together ..a single convict isnt agressive in my time of keeping convicts
