New 55gallon Convict tank-White spot on head

Today was a blessed day for me. I've been wanting a larger tank but the wife wasn't feeling me spending any money on one. I got on my free site and what do you know?!?! This lady was GIVING away her 55 gallon Cichlid tank! I was the first to respond to her and I got it! I haven't been able to accurately count the fish but my guess is there are between 25-30 of them. She's had them 10 years and didn't have time for them anymore. The tank was in DEPLORABLE condition, water and tank are FILTHY, filters were coated in slime and barely working. Some of the fish have spots on them and I am wondering what it is. Looks like they could be bite marks or scrapes from the rocks. I have also noticed several of them flashing. What do you think and what should I do?

Congrats on the tank.

If they are bites and scratches....clean water should clear it up. You might want to toss in a bit of aquarium salt, to help with the slime coat. That should be all you need. If it turns out to be more, you may need fungal meds or something.

Latest update on this issue.....I treated the fish(the whole tank) with Maracyn 2, rid fungus and added some aquarium salt. Did daily water changes and all the fish are looking much better! I think they are much happier now.
