Lovely fish, what size IS your tank? You know these fish will get upward of 14 " and need a large tank?

I also googled the Columbian cat shark, and they need brackish water.

What are your plans for these fish?

they currently have brackish water and im in the process of moving into my own place so i can get a larger tank for just him.. if he gets any bigger i plan on having my friend take him for alittle while and put him in his empty 75g

I think your fish would be much happeir in a 75 gallon tank. That would give you 6 months or so to work this out. They really are lovely, but a 10 gallon is cruel. To squeeze a fish into a tank that is that small in relation to how big he is suppose to be, is stressful, and they will grow their insides but not the outside, which ends up stunting them and causing an early death.

Hope you can get a new tank when you move. I would go for at least a 150 gallon tank if you have time to save up for one......They take planning, especially for the weight.

Take care and let us know how it goes.

Those guys need LOTS of room. I'm with Susitna, at least 150. They also should be brought in to a fully marine environment over time. These fish spawn in fresh water estuaries and migrate out to sea. Returning as adults to spawn. They can get larger than 14 inches. I had 3 the smallest at 12 inches jumped to his death when the system crashed in my tank. The middle one 13 inches died shortly there after. The last was about 15 inches when the 55 with rocks was just not enough for him. I think he crashed into one to many rocks killing himself. They are very active swimmers, especially at night. I also found them to be VERY aggressive hunters. Of very important note is their venomous dorsal spine. Be very careful around these guys. That spine will hurt you. I know they are very lovely fish. They will always be one of my favorites, but I have to put them in the "not for home aquariums" list. I hate to sound so negative. I just know what these guys need and that is quite a bit more than the average aquarist is ready for. Good luck and watch out for that spine.
