babies!!

Well it has been a little over 2 weeks since it got my trio of cacatuoides, triple red, tonight mama brought out her babies for us to see!! Of course I still don't have a breeding or fry tank so we are hoping a few make it in the community tank......yes I said hoping.

Congratulations on your babies! I hope they make it too, maybe you can put some of the babies in a breeder net with maybe some java moss?

When i bought them the dealer told me that many people report a spawn within a month of buying? Good thing my Borelli's are small...not ready for keeping and raising yet.
She only has a small spawn...can't count more than 12 but they are very young fish (the parents).

Mama Cacatuoides is doing a wonderful job caring for the young ones. She has her corner of the tank and the other fish pretty much leave her alone. He wanders in now and then to check on them. They keep the other fish away...without much aggression except the little corys, and she just pushes them if the get too close. This is easier than my earlier Angelfish spawning, but their fry were in the middle layer of the tank...like a school of baitfish. Started feeding them with crushed food and squirt it around them with a turkey baster.

The Cory behavior is amazing. Watching them I noticed that they seem to shut down when ms. cocatoo come to attack!!..she really just has to push them away...sideways, upsidedown etc... when she stops moving them they jus swim off. For a moment I thought one was dead....they play possum when in danger??..Has anyone else ever noticed this behavior in corys? mine are duplicareus.
