hey guys one of my clowns died, had him for a few weeks... water quality is fine. had noticed they were hanging around the bottom of the tank.. kinda looked like they were looking for food, however i fed them a couple times a day, although it didnt look like they ate very often, ive been feeding them flakes. perhaps its better to use the little pellets? im not really sure what went wrong, they looked pretty comfortable. any help would be appreciated

Clowns prefer to eat live or frozen meaty foods primarily. While I do not currently have clowns do to a rash of bad luck with brook outbreaks lately when I did have clowns they got fed frozen mysis shrimp in the morning and frozen garlic fortified brine shrimp in the evening. They were extremely healthy looking specimens until the first pair died to ICH after having them for nearly 6 months.

The last 6 I tried all came from the dealer with brook so I've just given up on clowns lately.

thanks, it kind of sucks. however i got some shrimp brine and marine S 'pellets' and the clown definately likes it so thats a plus. thanks peeps

now my other clown fish is acting strange...i bought another clown 3 days ago, and they get along pretty well. however all of a sudden the original clown is just lying on the bottom.. itll swim around for a little but then go back to lying down. i did a water change, i have no idea whats going on and im getting a little beat down by it all.

Either stress or brookynella. I converted 30L and it comes out at 8g which is a bit small for 2 clowns. With a tank that size it is best to stick with at most 1 clown. I haven't had any luck keeping clowns either so don't feel too out of it. There are plenty of other fish that i've found to be much hardier than clowns despite them being labeled as "great starter fish" they are literally the only species I have had die mysteriously over and over.

hey hypnox thanks for the reply, after doing some research i'm pretty sure its brook. at the moment i've just got the 1 clown in there, lost another yesterday. going to try and get some formalin in the morning and see how we go, if its not too late. will probably start over again with a much bigger tank and take more time cycling it, lesson learned the hardway i guess

I'm new to this site and the salt water hobby I have a 24 gallon nano cube that's been running for about 3 weeks now I just bought some clowns I've never heard of brook what is it and I'm scared now I thought I could expect my clowns to live long and healthy lives as long as I keep my water quality good.
