Bought first fish, clown... need help!

I just finished acclimating my true perc clownfish a couple of hours ago in my new 29g tank. I just started the hobby. I have had my aquarium set up for around 2 weeks now, and added cured live rock about a week ago as well as a protein skimmer.

Today I added a coralife light so I can grow corals in the future and a koralia 2. When I turned on the Koralia 2 (600gph) My clown seemed stressed from the force of the water, so I have it off now. He was swimming up and down the wall opposite the koralia. After I turned it off he is doing the same thing. To make sure nothing was wrong with him, I threw some food in the opposite side and he quickly came and got it. He appeared very healthy in the store and moves quickly if startled. I am just hoping that him staying to one side is him being cautious in a new environment and not a more serious problem. Is this normal of newly added fish?

BTW, I ran all the tests (pH, amonnia, nitrate, nitrite) a week ago before adding the live rock and then yesterday (live rock had been in there for a week). All the levels were in there appropriate ranges. 0 ammonia, 8.2ph etc. Temp is around 76 degress f.

Any thoughts? My guess is he is okay, just trying to prevent a problem early if there is one!

Pretty normal. While they will wander all over the tank when they have a specific reason to, they will spend most of their time in a relatively small territory of their choosing. The spot yours has selected now may not be permanent...as you say it could just be getting used to a new home.

Thanks.

While researching this I also came across some info that said that clowns can host inanimate objects. Mine is hovering near the heater constantly. I really hop he doesn't host this thing for all of his days!

Would there be any way to break the attachment to the heater if this happens?

Mine hosts a maxi-jet 400 :P They will pick whatever they want to host and there isn't much that can be done about it really. Your clown will likely pick something new to host in the future. They tend to pick stuff that they feel is a safe haven, often this ends up being a power head, heater or corner of the tank.

hey this is a random idea i'm throwing in. But maybe the water is slightly too cold, so he's sticking by the heater....I really don't know though. But that happened in my FW once.

76 should be ok. Clowns just like to host in spots they feel safe and it often ends up being a heater or power head.

Do they try to feed it? Mine has figured out how to throw brine shrimp at the intake screen on my maxi-jet and trys to feed it sometimes.

oh sorry It was just an suggestion.
Another point. When acclimatising the clown, does it depend on where you put it in the tank as to what object it will host? :/

Nope doesn't matter. The clown will spend a few hours wandering the tank and getting used to the environs and then will pick the spot it wants to host. As time goes on you may even notice it try to host different objects in the tank.
