How many paired clown fish can you have in the same tank?

The tank is 100 gallons. I was thinking to have two paired clowns of the same species so 4 total. But could I do more? Could I do 3 or 4 or 5 pairs. I would only do the same species. I figured the more could lessen aggression if I only had 4. Which is the case with damselfish.

In an 100g you have a colony of clowns...I'd start with the 2 pairs and see how they interact.

Re: How many paired clown fish can you have in the same tank?

Multiple pairs of the same type of clowns is not recommended. The dominant female will seek out and kill all others except her mate. Even in a 100 gallon. With one exception. If you have multiple anemones for all the clowns to host and different types of clownfish. So that's why it's hard. First you have to get your clown to host an anemone, then find a mate, then hope she doesn't kill new additional clown your going to add later.

so I can put in pairs of clowns of different species and that would be ok? Tomato clown, Perc clown, false clown etc.? Will the dominant female still kill all the others if put in at the same time. I don't plan on have an anemone with the clowns yet.
